remove the DVD drive?
six month old Acer AM5100 desktop
has a DVD drive that intermittently fails. not going to bother with warranty hassle for a cheesy DVD drive. will simply upgrade to a better quality unit. *hopes that the DVD drive not cursed with some sort of ACER propriety voodoo.. that would make this the last Acer that i'll ever buy..guaranteed. *returns to removing drive.. takes side panels and cables off.. hey..whats this?..no screws holding in the Acer drive..just some nifty green "locking tab" thingys. only problem is..unlocking the nifty green locking tab thingys only allows me to move the drive back and forth about ..eh..an inch. been poking at it for half an hour..still havent found the "majic button" to really..really release the drive. ?anyone know the "super secret " to get the freaking drive out? [this is progress?] not really worried. I have a nice dremel tool. It WILL come out..one way or the other. I LOATHE tricksy mechanicals designed to "encourage" people to sent in their puter to "authorized" repairs stations for simple component swap outs. .. |

I replaced the cheesy DVD-ROM/CDR drive in my aspire 3680 laptop with a DVD RW AD-5540A. It required loosening a screw, and sliding the thing out, then reversing that with the new one. remove the DVD drive?
The green things actually remove. Once they are out, the drive just slides
out. That's all there is to it. If the disk binds, it's just a tight fit, there are no other fasteners. Good luck.
