Default I run Windows XP SP3 directly on the Internet and despite...

continuous hammering from assholes who found my computer, it has
not been hacked or compromised.

The only firewall is Windows firewall.

The AV is Avast.

I use Tor, Stunnel, QSL and occasionally Omnimix.

Oh and I also have the SMTP service running. Russians and
Africans really love running brute force attacks on it.

No one should have been affected by WannaCrypt if they didn't
deliberately open suspicious files and execute strange programs. I
really think careless end-users should be held responsible for making
WannaCrypt famous.
