I was watchin my order through dells website they had my delivery date
for 31 april, then it went to 4 may, then 5 may, now it has jumped to 8
may... I'm just waiting for them to tell me now that i will not be
recieving my laptop...

I will be reconcidering my next purchase as this is almost on the verge
of being a very traumatic experience...

That seems a little too far in the future. What did you order and did you
notice the little disclaimers about how certain hardware changes can affect
the delivery date? When I ordered both of my Dell systems, a Dimension 4700
and an Inspiron 9300, I received both of them two to three days earlier than
the expected delivery date. I did customize both systems, so these were not
bone-stock units.

"Very traumatic?"

You're kidding, right?

That's unusual, IME the machine arrives well before the ship date, and
usually _before_ the shipping notification.

Same here. Once I selected:

Pentium® 955 Extreme Edition w/ Dual Core Tech (3.46GHz, 4MB Cache) [add
$1,000 or $30/month3]

Shipping date went to over a month. Ended up getting it inside 10 days
except my shipping notice arrived once it actually shipped. Maybe laptops
are in higher demand right now.

I had just the opposite experience with Dell. They got it built and shipped
out very fast. About a week sooner that I expected. And when I called and
asked them to send me a o.s. cd they sent it fedex next day. I was very
impressed with them.

Like most of the other posts, my orders usually ship before the quoted date.
My last two orders placed this month, a PE 2850 and a Precision, arrived
within seven days.

OK, first of all, why is this "traumatic"?

What type of order is it? Sometimes one part of an order can hold
everything else up. Is there anything unique or in short supply part
of your order?

Where is it in the manufacturing sequence on Dell's site?

I am really interested why it's "traumatic". I'm not trying to
invalidate you at all. I just think that with our modern
conveniences, the tolerance of "trauma" is small for a lot of people.

My mother lives 70 miles away. Someone might consider it "traumatic"
that I can't go down until Thursday because my car is in the shop, and
then I learn it's going to not be until Friday because they have to
get a part.

As early as 100 years ago, I would have had to take a carriage, a
horse, or walk for a week to get there. Someone from then would
consider a several day delay of getting a car fixed to be fantasy
island.

With the Internet and digital revolution, I think this is being taken
to another level. In a few years it might be traumatic if nne can't
get the 97th episode of MASH on demand one night because a web site is
down ...

Their website had order date: 18apr, build and testing and "order
leaves factory" in shipping detail 19apr. I ordered and inspiron 6400
with all features. But the fact that their website said it has been
dispatched and then keep delaying the delivery date when "expected
delivery" according to them is 4-8 days. Traumatic, probably not the
right choice of words. but they are turning out to be stupidly slow. I
could of had a courier deliver it in 2 days and for half the price.
