Wireless Router speed question
I have a new laptop, Vostro 2510, and a WRT300N Linysys wireless
router. Connection used to show as 130Mbps until I installed a security password. Now it shows a max of 54 Mbps. I see this as correlated, but should this be expected? Thanks ... |

So in sum, I can't really answer you, sorry. I can say that my near draft N router has wireless connections to it of 54 Mbps (max) thru out my 2 story home. |

Wireless Router speed question
130 Mbps is 16 MB/sec and 54 Mbps is 7 MB/sec. Guys, what transfer rate do you really get (in MB/sec) when you transfer about 100 MB (or more) of MP3 size files between two computers connected to a router via wireless? It will be nothing like the theoretical figures. Just time the transfer in seconds. |

Wireless Router speed question
I experienced the same thing with a WRT350N. No idea if there is a
solution. "Trekman" wrote in message ... I have a new laptop, Vostro 2510, and a WRT300N Linysys wireless router. Connection used to show as 130Mbps until I installed a security password. Now it shows a max of 54 Mbps. I see this as correlated, but should this be expected? Thanks ... |

So, the theory is that the encryption might be slowing the speeds or that this might have something to do with with your encryption and draft-N ...... ? |

I thought he said he only added a password. Why would this slow the speed
? A password is not the same as invoking encryption, is it ?? James ----------------------------------------- So, the theory is that the encryption might be slowing the speeds or that this might have something to do with with your encryption and draft-N ...... ? |

Brian, I can't recall my speed the last time I did something like this (perhaps 2 yrs ago) but even if I did, it doesn't mean a lot because the router, distance, walls, etc... could affect the transfer speed for a wireless setup. Inotherwords I could do the same transfer but change routers and get 2 different actual wireless speeds. |

Wireless Router speed question
Once more, what would this have to do with the speed of the transmission ??

I just know it happens. My guess is that it has to do with more overhead that the router has to deal with... sorta like a software firewall comes to mind when it kicks in. |
