Presario 7360 missing BIOS CDROM boot option
Guys,
I have an old 7360 that I am trying to restore (or possible put Linux on it . I ordered the 2 CD QuickRestore disks from Compaq, but they don't boot and there wasent a boot floppy in the package. The instructions say to boot into Windows, put in Disk #1, and hit ctrl-alt-delete twice. Sounds simple, eh? The problem is that the original Windows install was sooo screwed up with viruses that I couldn't even boot into Windows in the first place. So, I thought I would see if I could force it to boot from the CD. No luck; there is no CDROM option in the Boot menu, just floppy & hd. Anyway, I think I am long past putting Windows on this box. Does anyone know if there is a SoftPaq (or ROMPack) to put the boot from CDROM option in the BIOS? Or am I going to have to boot from floppy the rest of my life? Thanx! Richard |

Does
anyone know if there is a SoftPaq (or ROMPack) to put the boot from CDROM option in the BIOS? Or am I going to have to boot from floppy the rest of my life? I don't remember that model number specifically...but many older Compaqs didn't have a boot from CD option, and no updates that would change that. Using a WIN 9x boot disk with CD support would get you to a point that you could load Windows--have no experience with Linux.... Dale |

If it is not enabled there, no OS will boot from X. X is whatever device. Q |
