Presario 1500 powers off spontaneously
Hi all...
I have a Compaq Presario 1500 notebook, P4, 2.4 GHz, and it spontaneously powers off when using certain programs. Before it shuts down the fan gets pretty loud, so I'm assuming it has to do with heat? Any suggestions on what to do or how to solve this? Thanks! Jeff |

Jeff With the unit dead cool, having been shut off for say an hour, with a can of "compressed air", dust cleaner, etc., sold at any computer store, blow through the fan and all of the exhaust ducts. You may be pleasantly surprised at the material that is blown out. These laptops have, I believe, laminar flow air cooling with large amounts of low velocity air to keep vent noise minimized, and as a result, dust will collect in the ducting. With low velocity air, cooling is poor, and dust on surfaces can reduce heat removal from the heat sink. When blowing out the ducts, keep the can completely vertical to prevent any of the liquid from being blown into the computer. While if the computer is cool the liquid probably won't damage anything, the evaporating liquid can become quite cold and possibly damage anything is comes into contact with. Q |

This worked BEAUTIFULLY!!!! I can't thank you enough for the advice! My
laptop is SOOO quiet now.. I never realized how much harder the fan was working than it should have been! Now I'll just have to make sure I keep it free of dust from now on.. I bought a few cans of air so I can clean it out regularly... "Quaoar" wrote in message ... nospam prodigy.net wrote: Hi all...
