Default Surround sound system issue

I've got a surround sound system that I'm having trouble getting to
work fully. By that, I mean it comes with three connections (one for
each section...front, rear and sub-woofer). There are 3 connections
on my soundcard which I assume it should work with. These are Out,
Mic and Line-In. The one that is connected to Out works, but the
other 2 won't play any sound. Is my sound card incompatible, or is
there some sort of setting I can change to make it work?

It depends on your sounds card.

Usualy the 3 connectors you talk about are as you pointed out
Out = Output to speakers
Mic = Input for Microphone
Line-In = Input for other devices.

More modern cards have the ability to change the input jacks for
output to power the rear and center/sub speakers.

Try taking a look in the sound options in control pannel, and the
software you got with the soundcard. If it's onboard the motherboard,
then the sound utility will have options.
