Default logitech quickcam express software for Vista

I have this logitech quickcam express camera that came with Windows Me
on my old 6 year old Dell computer. There is no model no. on camera.
I plugged it in to my new DEll computer. I get message saying
something to the effect , 'installing drivers and camera ready to go"

There was no quickcam express program installed on my computer.

Has anybody else had the same problem?

I guess I might as well throw the camera out.

Roger

I think most people would try a google search for "quickcam
express driver".

Check Windows sound recording. The microphone may maybe turned off, not
selected or the volume maybe zeroed.

I tried to configure it and there is a little sound. Maybe the
computer is at fault. I really do not plan to use it, as I just
wanted to see how cam and mic worked on near new Dell AMD 64
computer.

Thanks again.

Roger

In the past most mics included in webcams were not seen by
computers as audio capture devices like sound cards. Use of the
mic in the cam may require special drivers.

Ahh...That makes a difference. I was under the impression (as was Si(I
think)) that the mic was in the camera. If it is a 'stand alone' mic,
then Windows will have to be configured under Sound Recording to 'know'
that it is there and it will have to be plugged into the right input
(not line in). Once this is done, just adjust the mic input volume until
you have an acceptable level of recording volume. Easy enough to
find...if the mic is close to your speakers you will get a bit of
feedback if the volume is set to high! The only problem I have had with
cheap mics is that you practically have to swallow them for them to pick
up your voice! My personal preference for a mic is to use a Bluetooth
headset...similar to the type used for mobile phones, in fact the one I
use I originally bought for my mobile phone, but doubles up quite well
on the PC (with the addition of a Bluetooth device plugged into a USB
port) and that way you are not 'tethered' to the computer...you simply
move out of the picture when on a video chat if you go to get a beer (or
soft drink if you don't drink beer :-) ), but you can still talk until
you come back. I also use the same setup on a VOIP software 'phone' as
well as Skype.
