Black case blues! - slightly off-topic?
I probably should have posted this in the case mod group but it does
not seem to be very active and I know that you folks are so knowledgable and helpful that you wouldn't want me to take this is slightly off-topic posting elsewhere. Compliments out of the way and now down to business! =(:-) I am looking for some suggestions for a nice, quiet, black case for my soon to be built system. I am a quiet, understated kinda guy and don't want clear side panels or lots of flashing leds (unless they can be disconnected). The Antec Sonata woud do nicely except for the couple of points I make below. Does anyone know of a case that soft mounts ALL drives both internal and external? I know that the Antec Sonata soft mounts the internal 3.5 inch drives but it does not mount the external drives that way. The externals are fixed with regular screws and no rubber mounts. Whilst you have your thinking caps on, what is the best solution for providing external drives with matching black fronts, other than hiding them behind a door like the Sonata? BTW I don't like doors. I would also like a case that I can buy without a power supply and steel is OK as I can probably afford that!! Thanks for any help you can offer. Pete |

Hmm...you're not very picky are you??
Hee hee..anyway..why would you want to mount your drives on rubber?? The LAST thing you want is your drives being able to move around while the platters or discs are spinning inside. But anyway, this case is hard to beat: http://tinyurl.com/kjcu "Pete" wrote in message s.com... I agree w/Pug. He's pointed to a nice case with a quality power supply.

But anyway, this case is hard to beat: http://tinyurl.com/kjcu Hey PP - you know how it is, you get a neat idea in your head and you run with it until either it works or you fall on your face. I wonder how come you managed to pick an Antec? I do like the Antec cases a lot but my load calculations suggest a 450 watt p/s so I have decided to go for the Antec True 480P and that is why I am now looking for that "special case" to put it in. The one case that I have seen with rubber mounts for the internal but not the external drives has shouldered screws to go through the rubber mounts and so the rubber cuts down the noise without letting the drives move about. http://www.compucasecorp.com/case/lx-6a19%5B2%5D.htm - This is the case in white. Keep up the giggles and the suggestions. Thanks Pete |

I like the unique CPU air duct. |

What do you mean a FIXED motherboard plate?? Are you saying the plate in the back where the motherboards external connectors stick through is FIXED? It can't be removed?? What a pile of ****. Why would they do that???? That's like making the wheels of your car non-removeable. You just can't go wrong with Antec/Cheiftech. I just haven't found a more functional, better built case (for the price) than an Antec or a Cheiftech. |

Many cases have a "tray", which is the plate the MB screws to and the back panel (one peice) that slides out for easy access to the mainboard. If you look at Lian-Li cases on newegg.com, you will find some pictures showing it. You just can't go wrong with Antec/Cheiftech. Hank I dont see why people like the removable motherboard plate, I have NEVER seen a system wher ethe motherboard plate was able to slide/twist/open out and have the expansion slot cards come out at the same time.. so It's like getting that "Feature" just so you can install the motherboard, ram, processor, and heatsink.. I personally like a nice solid sheet of stainless that's permfixed |
