Default Regarding Storage Virtualization

i am looking for a software solution of storage virtualization with
minimum hardware involved !!
can anyone enlighten me about out of band storage virtualization ! As
i am novice in field of SAN kindly advice me a good resource !!

Very little in the way of OOB approaches that don't require expensive
intelligent FC switches. Plenty of software in-band solutions
(FalconStor, DataCore, LeftHand etc)
