Mike Richter, were you born with "Scam Artist" emblazoned on your face? -------------------------------------- Isaac (Pipsqueak) squealed: snip squealing No squealing on this? =================================== From: Mike Richter (Slimy ****) Date: 9/21/04 The impact comes in the TOC ... which must at least in part be scrubbed - erased and rewritten - whenever a file is written or erased. On a write-once disc with variable-length packets... there's no scrubbing ================================== (CD-RW has TOC, but CD-R doesn't!) Wonder if the above cockamamie is Mikey's slimy attempt to weasel out of this: Does packet written CD-R have a directory? If so, does the directory get "scrubbed"? ================================================== ========== Alex Nichol (Mikey S-licker) peep-squeaked (7/20/04): 'Packet writing' comes in two flavours... 'Fixed length' ...can update individual files Because the packets used for the file system directories get repeatedly re-written, it hits the limits of disk life a lot earlier than you might expect. Expert on UDF and packet writing, Alex Nichol (MS MVP)? Is this beyond comprehension of MS MVPs? ============================================== Mike Richter (Roxio ****) splattered (2/6/02): When you remove a fixed-length packet disc after having written anything to it, the directory information is written back from RAM. That means that at least portions of the disc are "scrubbed" - rewritten many times. The disc is supposed to tolerate 1000 cycles, but in fact read accuracy goes down continuously with erase cycles and the 1000 number seems absurdly optimistic from the experience of most. If that's the case, why does DirectCD even bother to use SPARING technique, Mikey? ============================================== How about these, Alex Nichol (MS MVP)? Does packet written CD-R have a directory? If so, does the directory get "scrubbed"? Still no comprehende, Friggin Idiot? Too thick to realize you've been had, Friggin Idiot? ----------------------------------- Does MS stand for "Mikey S-licker"? ----------------------------------- -------------------------------------- Does the "P" in MVP stand for "PRICK"? -------------------------------------- |
