What is "Built-in AI Auto Speed Adjustment" in Asus DVD-ROM drive + can it hamper performance?!!..

I have a lite on that has a similiar technology. You won't notice a
difference. When I play Divx movies, I cache 64M of data so I never
fall behind. Theoretically, it will slow down and speed up depending
on the quality of the disc (pressed vs burned) but in reality, there
is not that much difference between 48x and 32x. You can rip the CD
in like 2.5 minutes or 4 minutes but it still takes 10 minutes to
install the damn game.

Probably the same deal as the Lite-On SMART-X feature. The drive does not
wait to figure out the correct read speed before it can start reading data,
it just starts reading data and adjusts the disc speed based on how fast the
software is reading.
