i2c sensors for A8N VM csm under linux
dear asus experts:
I have compiled w83627ehf and i2c-nforce2 into the kernel 2.6.17.4. A grep of dmesg gives me: i2c /dev entries driver i2c-co driver [dev_driver] registered i2c_adapter i2c-9191: ISA main adapter registered i2c_adapter i2c-9191: Driver w83627ehf registered i2c_adapter i2c-9191: client [w83627ehf] registered with bus id 9191-0290 i2c_adapter i2c-0: adapter [NVIDIA I2C Device] registered i2c-dev: adapter [NVIDIA I2C Device] registered as minor 0 i2c_adapter i2c-1: adapter [NVIDIA I2C Device] registered i2c-dev: adapter [NVIDIA I2C Device] registered as minor 1 i2c_adapter i2c-2: adapter [NVIDIA I2C Device] registered i2c-dev: adapter [NVIDIA I2C Device] registered as minor 2 i2c_adapter i2c-2: ioctl, cmd=0x705, arg=0x7fff7ce3d500 i2c_adapter i2c-1: ioctl, cmd=0x705, arg=0x7fff7ce3d500 i2c_adapter i2c-0: ioctl, cmd=0x705, arg=0x7fff7ce3d500 i2c_adapter i2c-0: ioctl, cmd=0x705, arg=0x7fff677f6430 i2c_adapter i2c-1: ioctl, cmd=0x705, arg=0x7fffecfa6be0 i2c_adapter i2c-2: ioctl, cmd=0x705, arg=0x7ffff2a13650 i2c_adapter i2c-2: ioctl, cmd=0x705, arg=0x7fffad0cf780 i2c_adapter i2c-1: ioctl, cmd=0x705, arg=0x7fffad0cf780 i2c_adapter i2c-0: ioctl, cmd=0x705, arg=0x7fffad0cf780 alas, i2cdetect 0 (or 1 or 2) gives me an error: Error: Can't use SMBus Quick Write command on this bus (ISA bus?) may I ask what else is required? (i2c-pca-isa, for example) sincerely, /iaw |

(i2c-pca-isa, for example) sincerely, /iaw The chip sits on the LPC bus (low pin count). That is a lot faster than the old SMBUS, and I think even things like the BIOS chip can sit on that bus. The real question is how the software developers chose to classify the thing. They don't always use the right bus, and lump these things all into a "catagory". So it could very well be that the thing needs ISA, because LPC might not even be recognized as such. http://www.winbond-usa.com/products/...627EHF_EHG.pdf For example, here is a message claiming W83627EHF was moved to ISA. Don't ask me what that means :-) "Separate non-i2c hwmon drivers from i2c-core -- drivers/hwmon/w83627ehf.c" http://lists.lm-sensors.org/pipermai...ly/013027.html Good luck, Paul |
