Default HP 6180 All-in-One Software Doesn't Fire Up Anymore

It's been awhile since I've tried to fire up the 6180 (Subject) to scan
documents from the HP software Win XP Start menu(HP fast start). Nothing
happens. No software appears. From the Properties of the HP Fast Star menu
item, I see this:

"C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqthb08.exe" -s

The required file does exit.

I cannot fire up the digital imaging monitor, picture package or picture vcd
maker. The last item will fire up from the icon in my tray. So will the
imaging monitor. The other two are not in the tray. What's with all this?

It looks like I will be able to proceed, since the digital image monitor is
up, and it contains about everything.

Spoken too soon. I get the following msg: Failed to load resource DLL
C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\OleDB\OLEDB32R.DLL

A Google search for the dll file produces a "dumping ground for dll files",
including this one. Is that for real? Maybe I have no choice. I don't see
the file in the folder given.

Well, I'm stumped.

Been away for a few days. I'd like avoid re-installing. It's a pitiful HP
process. I probably all the download files to install, BUT, early in this
install game, I had to install 3 times with different downloads from their
site. Each download took 3-4 hours, and I was on the phone with their tech
for hours each time. They have the most ridiculous support for install I've
ever encountered. After we concluded the last time, I asked them to send me
a CD with the latest install. Never got it.
