Burner won't write

The link is: http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing...ge/faq.html#10 How can I use Acronis True Image Home 9.0 to write images directly to DVD discs? My O/S is XP Pro. My packet writer is Nero InCD Winxp burn function does not support DVD. Only Nero 5.5.10.20+ properly supports DVD. The Acronis page says it only supports DVD/RW, not DVD/R, and that only with packet writing software. Your solution is get a "Nero 6 oem suite 3". Think you can get it for about $10 I am much obliged. Actually I am helping a friend with two computers and I'm sure that I installed v6 on the other computer. Double check that. You wrote: "Same happened with Nero v4." Will do. I think I got that wrong. On the other hand I think the Liteon drive came with Nero 6.6 OEM. Should that do as well because it isn't working. It should. Now you are back to square one. Uninstall Acronis, and run Nero Clean Tool to uninstall Nero and InCD: http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/General_CleanTool.html Disable IMAPI: Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services, double-click "IMAPI CD Burning", click Stop, then set "Startup type" as "Disabled". Power down and check: If the old drive is jumpered as CS (cable select), use CS for the burner instead of Master or Slave. Double check the data cables are seated/connected properly. Go into the BIOS and check that the drives are recognized. Check the drives are working properly in Device Manager. Reinstall only Nero and try burn. If I just download InCD from the Nero site do you think that would get me out of this mess. No. Thanks for coming back to me. Tomorrow morning I shall go to my friends house and thoroughly check everything as you said. Not sure what you mean by "old drive". I'm now only dealing with the new Liteon. Sorry, I was confused. Again, double check cable connection and jumper settings. If still trouble, and if the burner is the only cd drive, try swapping Master and CS jumper settings. If two cd drives, swap them. We had a successful burn. Here's what happened. I backed up an image across the network. I uninstalled True Image. I downloaded CleanTool and used it to uninstall nero. I disabled IMAPI. First it declared service status as "stopped". I changed it to "Disabled". The IDE cables were bothnew and 80 pin type. The drive was the only one on the secondary channel and it was jumpered as master. I changed it to C/S. In BIOS the drive was recognised as slave. Seems your only trouble is simply that the drive was jumpered as Master, but connected as Slave. When you have only one drive, you connect the drive to the end connector, not the middle one. The BIOS should recognize it as Master. Check: Device Manager, IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, Primary/Secondary IDE Channel, Advanced Settings tab. Check that Current Transfer Mode is UDMA2 or 4. Once you do the above, sounds like you are ready to go, like installing InCD and True Image. (Remember, however, that InCD and True Image burn only to DVD/RW. For DVD/R, use Nero.) I forgot to check that the drivers were ok. I installed Nero 6.6 for rewritable DVD's (not very sure about what these precisely are). I ran Nero and compiled 3 or 4 folders from Windows to burn. I chose verify after burning. It looked ok and the data seemed to be on the disk when I checked. Should ve now install InCD and True Image? Will it burn an image to a DVD? Many thanks Colin You are welcome, and happy burning. Many thanks. What does DVD R/W actually mean? My ISP#s web server has gone down or I'd look for myself. Colin PS When it was jumpered as master the BIOS recognised it as master. It recognised it as slave only after I changed the jumper to C/S. |

"DVD/RW" was meant to mean both dvd-RW and dvd+RW. Maybe should go back to using "DVD_RW" to mean both -rw and +rw. And similary for "DVD/R" to mean dvd+R and dvd-R, and again go back to using "DVD_R" to mean both -r and +r. PS When it was jumpered as master the BIOS recognised it as master. It recognised it as slave only after I changed the jumper to C/S. The BIOS must be checking the drive's jumper setting first and stop checking further once Master or Slave is "settled". Thanks for the tip. |
