I thought about it too but figured that, being nearsighted, it

- I usually wear sunglasses outside anyhow, so they might
as well be prescription. For activities where glasses
are a hassle, I've got one-day contacts.

- Without Lasik, I can still work without glasses.
Need to hold stuff pretty close and move the monitor
closer, but I can function.

- With Lasik, I'm totally dependent on reading glasses.
No glasses, no work... no function...period.
Especially inconvenient when out riding or whatever
and I need to read a map. Instead of just flipping
my specs up, I have do dig out the reading glasses.

- There has tb a risk factor with Lasik. I don't have a
clue what it is, but it's got to be there.

This is obviously a YMMV issue, but I'm extremely glad I did LASIK - I
was *very* sick of wearing glasses, which I started wearing at age 10.

LASIK & risk factors, there certainly is risk involved, it's surgery
after all and it's on your eyes. I've known personally a couple of
people who saw halos around lights at night post-op, but I haven't
experienced it myself. There are some horror stories around as well.
Moral of the story for me --- find a good surgeon who does the procedure
frequently with a low rate of post op problems, not the cheapest guy
with the biggest ad.

One of my happiest moments post op was when I renewed my drivers license
and dropped the glasses restriction from it.
