Default CD-RW Installation Problem

I recently purchased a Mad Dog 52x CD-RW Artec Model
No. WRR-52x. I installed it as a replacement for my
CD-ROM; attached the CD-RW the secondary IDE cable
and
jumpered it as master. My windows 98 recognized the
device as Artec WRR-52x and , from initial
appearance, my installation was successful.
However,
when I inserted the NERO CD software that came with
the product, the CD-RW whizzed for a minute then it
tried to read the contents of the CD as audio files
only. This was the case with all non-audio CDs
while
for audio CD's with audio files, the CD-R has no
problems and reads the CD audios fine.

Does this require an updated firmware (my current
version reads 1.25) or is this a defective product
Please help.
Thank you,
Paolo
