Default Old Skool Deskpro Upgrade

Hi there,

I wonder if anyone can help...

I've got an old Deskpro 4000s with a 200MMX processor and am wondering
about the possibility of upgrading the processor. Does anyone know if
this can be done? I've had a nose around in the machine and there seem
to be some dip switches going up to 233 MHz but I found an article
posted here (in 1999!) which said you could go up to 333.

Anyone know what options I've got?

Thanks a lot,
Adam

P.S. The machine is apparently a Deskpro 4000S 5166X according to
Compaq, but, as I say, it's got a 200 MHz processor in it.

if it's a tx chipset, intel 233 is highest you can go.
if it's an sis chipset then you might be able to put in that amd333.

it's one of those cases where whatever you spend to upgrade it you could
get a p2/3 computer instead for the same price.

How do I find out what the chipset is?

Yeah, I don't use the computer for anything serious really (bit of
browsing, few old games) so don't want to be spending much on it - but I
thought I might see what the options were and keep an eye on e-bay...

Thanks,
Adam

should say in the bios or at the bottom of the screen when booting up.

Hmm, it doesn't say anything useful at startup and I've had a look
around in the BIOS and can't find anything relating to the chipset :-(

Is there another way to find this information?

Thanks a lot,
Adam

aida32 World Wide System info Tool -freeware

http://www.aida32.hu/aida-download.php?bit=32

Install and run to create a system report that will tell you
everything about the computer including the chip set.

Thanks Shadow!

I've looked for a program like this before but haven't been successful
until now :-)

However, the chipset comes up as:
VIA VT82C590 Apollo VP2

I've had a look on the VIA website, but they don't have this listed :-(
Anyone have any ideas what processor this can support?

Thanks,
Adam

Does the report generated by Aida for your motherboard also have
listed a number such as this: PA-2007 or one similar. That number
should appear below the VIA VT82C590 Apollo VP2 in the motherboard
area of Aida's report. Usually there is always a two or three
character and 4 digit code fore the motherboard useful when seeking
specs and manuals.
