DLT cleaning card compatibility
Could I hurt a DLT1 drive if I use a Cleaning Tape III on it?
Anyone know specifically how a DLT Cleaning Tape III is different from a DLT VS Cleaning cart or a SDLT one? |

Sorry. Meant cart as in cartridge.

Yes.
The 3 families need different tape material. They have very different heads (DLT: Ferrite inductive, VS: Thin film MR, SDLT: Thin film MRC with servo) and the drive won't accept the wrong tape type. Unless you use a combination that the firmware engineers didn't expect. For example it was possible to brick a SDLT220 with a Cleaning Tape III with certain old firmware versions. Ralf-Peter |

That's what I feared. I guess I should trust what the manufacturer's say more. |
