IMac G4 OS X / Linksys router/PC to internet thru a DirectWay satelite HELP!!
Ok, I just bought an iMac 1 gig machine, OS x, installed the Airport card
extreme. I have a DirectWay satelite talking to a PC thru a USB port with ethernet card to a Linksys wireless router (I'm way out in the boonies, sure miss my DSL). The Linksys router is hooked to the satelite/pc via the WAN port. Another PC talks to the internet via wireless. I want the IMac to talk to the the internet thru the satelite wireless et al system, don't particularly need file sharing PC to Mac. How do I go about it?? I looked around the iMac preferences for network, but being such a newbie with the mac I don't know what to push/select etc. By the way Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) is how the internet is shared using Windows 98SE. Because the WAN port is used to connect the satelite host PC to the Linksys, the host pc can't look at the router, as the router is behind the hardware firewall. I used an article Linksys sent to hook up the linksys and they said use the WAN port. Don't understand why. I guess it is to protect the client PC's behind the hardware firewall. Anyway how do I get the iMac to get to the internet thru this hodge podge. Love the mac, it works with digital video so gooooood. Never could get it to work on PCs smoothly. Thanks in advance for any help. Wade Remove the XX to email |

If the router has a switch, it should be possible to attach the Mac to it
and use the ICS on the PC. Macs can use ICS from a PC (just set it up for DHCP). Otherwise, see if you can get an Ethernet attached satellite modem that you can attach to the router directly.
