Soundmax and Nero

I've got an 865PERL mainboard with onboard sound using Soundmax 4.0 XL. I
use Nero 6 for a recorder. I have been recording LPs and converting to MP3
with Nero using an Audio Technics PL120 turntable with built in preamp
connected to Line In. All works, but in order to get a wav recording to fall
within the graph limits of Nero's Wave Editor I have to turn the Soundmax
Line In slider down to 3%. The resulting MP3s are quiet, lower volume than
other MP3s I've downloaded, which makes more work when compiling CD's.
Anyone know why this is? You'd think the line in setting would be somewhere
around 50% to give more flexibility in setting the line in sound levels.

I agree, somewhere around 50% (maybe a bit lower) would be normal. But if
the waveform is only just fitting in the Wave Editor graph the recording
must be roughly as loud as any other sound from your computer - unless
you've set the "vertical zoom" to something other than 100%. How high does
the "input level" graph go when you're recording?

Also, do you know about the Normalize option in the Volume menu? Select the
whole recording and use this to increase the volume as far as it'll go
without degrading the quality.
