Default Dell 8300 Internet Connection

A quick question. On the new Dell 8300, apparently Dell installs an "Internet Gateway"
for the Internet Connection which is enabled. I have a Lan or High Speed Internet with
the local are connection through a Router so I can connect my desktop and laptop to the
Internet.

Is it safe to just delete the Dell Internet Gateway in Network Connections or is there
another way it should be done?
Thanks
Charlie

i think that is part of the 'dell security center by mcafee'...

did you get a trail subscription to 'dell security by mcafee'? if so, it is
not a gateway in the sense of windows 'internet connection sharing' but a
gateway between your pc and the internet (one that monitors the pcs traffic
to protect you).

I did not get the Mcafee trial, I selected the Norton Antivirus instead. I have Norton
Internet Security, so I immediately uninstalled the trial Norton Antivirus and installed
my retail Norton Firewall and Norton Antivirus. So, could this gateway be from the Norton
Antivirus Trial and I can safely remove it?

that being the case it is certainly not the dell/mcafee firewall. it also
isn't the 90 day norton antivirus that came with your pc that installed it.
it sounds like it is the 'firewall' that resulted from installing your
norton firewall. haven't used it so can't say for certain. but if you
delete it and your norton firewall stop working then you know what you need
to reinstall.

I uninstall the AOL Trial and the Earthlink Trial that Dell automatically
installs and the issue went away.

Hi Charlie,

Its actually Windows that does that... I think... I did a reformat and
clean install of my system and I have a router on my ADSL and the Internet
Gateway appeared when I first connected to the net... all before my Dell
resource CD went anywhere near my system.

If you delete it it will just come back next time you reboot... mine did.
When you delete it... try connecting to the net and you will find you cant.
