Thought my 200-watt amp was like 50-years-old: reality checks in to
say it's actually 30 and only made from 1985-88. ...Way back when everything was 8-ohm speaker loads. A number of good amps, however, placed for added feature-minded class consciousness, provided for speaker arrays -- in case an obsequious switch may come to mind: A/B .to. A+B, or operational tolerances for two pairs of 8-ohm speakers simultaneously driven. Where it gets weird, is that 4-ohm speakers, smokin' high-current draws, weren't then among engineering considerations. But wait -- two speaker pairs wired together mathematically changes the total ohmage load;- same applies to this particular amp: If two pairs of 8-ohm are substituted for a single pair of 4-ohm speakers, the resulting situation is a definite Can Do. Though that was pretty swift to find out. |
