Default HP Laserjet 1020

I picked up the HP Laserjet yesterday and I'm very pleased with it , but I
have a couple of questions if anyone could help ?

1. The fact that the power switch is inconveniently located at the rear
seems to suggest it isn't used on a ' daily ' basis. Should it be left
powered up permanently ?

2. Does the software alert you to low toner levels , or is declining
print quality the only indicator ?

3. Is there anything wrong with using Economode permanently ? The
printouts in economode are generally good enough for most of my needs.

TIA

Tom

1. It is entirely up to you whether you turn it off when not in use. There has
been debate about whether this is good or bad for equipment for decades, the
argument is now moot since the evidence does not indicate one way or the other
(that is with modern equipment of course, things used to be different!). So the
decision is whether you wish to save a few watts of power or not when the
printer is idle and that is clearly your call.
2. No there is no alert to low toner for this printer, you will start to get
poor quality print when the toner runs low, you can gently shake the cartridge
at that point and maybe extend its life a little.
3. If Economode is good enough for your needs then use it, it will not harm the
printer.
