Default HP DirectJet card compatibility / cross-ref

Have a dead (I think) JetDirect 615n (p/n J6057a) card.

Have access to JD 600 (p/n J3113a).

Can the 600 be used in place of the 615?

Thanks,

Looks like it. The 600 is EIO, although it only does 10base-T, not 100.
In use, that probably won't make a noticeable difference.

Tony posted some very interesting and possibly relevant information on
the 615n here a couple of weeks back:

The 3113A is most assuredly 10/100. (I have one.)

I downloaded the user guide for the J3113a (600n) card. It is 10/100.

Is this the only thing that I need to consider re. compatibility (or lack
thereof)? Will this card function identically (as far as the user is
concerned) to the J6057a (615n)?

Thanks,

You're right. The page I found was for the J3111A.

User-wise, it should be the same. The configuration web page and telnet
menus are probably different, but that's a onetime setup/admin thing.

Is any EIO printer fast enough to make 100BaseT really needed?

Probably not...

Oh, I suspect it might make a difference for a high end printer like a
8000 or maybe evan an 8500 / 5000. My lj 5000 at 16 PPM could
probably spit the first page out a couple of second earlier if I was
using wired 100MB rather than wireless into 10MB.

But does it really matter? If you have a working DJ 600 card would it
be worth spending $100 or so for a newer DJ card? I don't think so.
