Seek Error Rate - low values?
Hi,
I'm confused about a SMART error from my disk and wondered if anybody here could clarify it for me? During bootup my bios halts to tell me I have a smart error, I have to press a button to then continue. I ran some SMART diagnostic tools ("SiSoftware Sandra" and "HDDHealth") and one of them told me my "Seek Error Rate" was too low. Should I be worried? I know I can tell my bios to ignore smart errors but that seems a little foolish. It is a new disk so I can send it back, but it is the primary disk on my home machine, so I'll be out of action for some time until I get a replacement. Anybody have some advice for me? Many thanks Dsik details: 400Gig Maxtor STM3500630AS Here are my SMART values: S.M.A.R.T Data Raw Read Error Rate (01) : 31265 (Threshold 6; Worst 117; Maximum 100) Spin-up Time (03) : 0 (Threshold 0; Worst 93; Maximum 93) Start/Stop Count (04) : 62 (Threshold 20; Worst 100; Maximum 100) Re-Allocated Sector Count (05) : 0 (Threshold 36; Worst 100; Maximum 100) Seek Error Rate (07) : 58266 (Threshold 30; Worst 28; Maximum 28) Power-On Time Count (09) : 194 (Threshold 0; Worst 100; Maximum 100) Spin Retry Count (0A) : 0 (Threshold 97; Worst 100; Maximum 100) Power Cycle Count (0C) : 67 (Threshold 20; Worst 100; Maximum 100) TBB : 652 (Threshold 0; Worst 1; Maximum 1) TBD : 0 (Threshold 0; Worst 100; Maximum 100) TBE : 24 (Threshold 45; Worst 76; Maximum 69) Drive Temperature (C2) : 24 (Threshold 0; Worst 24; Maximum 40) ECC Corrected Count (C3) : 8190 (Threshold 0; Worst 76; Maximum 63) Pending Sector Count (C5) : 5 (Threshold 0; Worst 100; Maximum 100) Un-Correctable Sector Count (C6) : 5 (Threshold 0; Worst 100; Maximum 100) CRC Error Count (C7) : 0 (Threshold 0; Worst 200; Maximum 200) Write Error Rate (C8) : 0 (Threshold 0; Worst 100; Maximum 253) TA Increase Count (CA) : 0 (Threshold 0; Worst 100; Maximum 253) |

It's a new disk that's clearly broken. What do you do with broken stuff? |
