It didn't even as me for my number, here's what I did.

1. Uninstalled InCD Reader, InCD and Nero in that order.
2. Installed latest Nero, InCD and InCD Reader in that order.

Never asked me for the serial number, instead, the number was pulled out of
the registry.

Mr CCampbell is an employee of Ahead, and he states:

"Hello everyone,

Looks like this is a bug in our Nero 6.6 software. This is being worked on
now, and before long we will have a new version posted to resolve this
issue.

In the meantime, we do have the list of serial keys that are valid, but

will
be reported as Invalid by our Nero 6.6 software, and our Tech's have been
made aware of this issue.

If you encounter this problem, send an Email to and
provide your Name, Email address, and Serial key. They will confirm its
valid and on the list, and respond back with a new Nero 6.6 Serial key.

We have a 5 working day response time, but you will be able to use Nero

6.6
in Demo mode till you get a response from our Tech Support team.

Sorry for the trouble.

Regards,
Craig"

So I guess that ends the discussion... :-)

Did you have trouble with InCD/winxp/SP2 even before SP2 was
released? And did you apply the phantom SP2 on win2k/SP4?

Interesting that he also got a pop-up message that he had to
reactivate Windows XP Pro, even though there were no substantial
changes. It appears that in some cases, this new Nero release has
some serious bugs. It was from the download version update by the
way, not the CD. The Nero official stance is to notify them, then
MAYBE in 5 days they will get back to you with a correct serial
number. Sounds rather risky right now. I think I will wait until
they get the kinks out of their update, which may be by Version
7.35.778.343.

I've also seen some references to problems where a person's hardware has
been changed since the original install of Nero. Ala: WindowsXP activation
scheme. I hope this is not what is occurring. But in this particular case,
the problem was circumvented by re-installing with the Nero CD from scratch,
then updating to 6.6.

AFAIK, 6.6 is limited to free upgrades for owners of original retail
licenses. It may not work on OEM serials, but maybe someone can clarify

this
who has an OEM version.

The good news is that this new version is finally released

The bad news is that it may not recognize previous serial numbers.

A
friend just notified me that his doesn't work.

Why is this a problem. If you buy it I assume they give you a new

serial?

The guy tells me he purchased the 6.3 version, and when he updated, it
would not allow him to run the updated version because it says the
serial number is not valid. I think this is a problem for anyone who
legitimately purchased the full version 6, and thinks he/she will
automatically get a free update.

I had that XP reactivation problem as well. No problem with the ser. no. But
as soon as I installed 6.6 I got the cursed "Your harware has changes
significantly..." message and had to reactivate XP

The vatious 6.6 keygens floating around also work. Just as a
temporary measure, of course......

I didn't even bother uninstalling, you're given the option to simply update
what's already there during installation of the new files. With my own
version of Nero 6, the upgrade was simple/painless.
