Thanks for input - What I wound up buying....
A handful of days ago I asked for some suggestions as to what you guys
consider to be a good update... I HAD,,, Asus A7M266 M/B 512 mb PC2100 RAM XP2000+ CPU I was go to buy something like this... Asus A7NAX M/B 512 mb PC3200 RAM XP2800 CPU I asked for your suggestions... The night before I bought it, I phoned the shop and asked for all the parts "you guys" gave as your suggestions and they said they had all the parts... When I got to the shop Saturday, they made out the invoice. Whoops, they had sold out of the Asus M/B's so I got Gigabyte GA-7N400. OK I can live with that but I don't know anything about Gigabyte boards although I do know that Gigabyte do have some good stuff. I went over to the desk to pick up all my bits and then whoops, no more XP2800 so they virtually gave me an XP3000 for the inconvenience. They gave me the BIG speech about how they will lose money in this deal - Yawwwwwnnnn...!!!! but I told them I too was ****ed off that they told me they had an XP2800 but none available when I get here. I was all set to get an XP2500 and try the o/clocking thing but when the owner muttered a few words to the sales guy, under his breath, they said how about taking this XP3000 instead... I thought "here comes the sales pitch" but when they gave the price, I didn't even bother to think twice - SOLD....!!!! Besides,, there were lots of customers in the shop and they were doing lots of business so they can afford this one. I also wound up buying 2 sticks of 512mb of PC3200... I think it is Hynix. probably not the best but they are a matching pair and already I can see that this system is performing quite well compared to 3 days ago... I hope I did right by you guys... AND - Thanks for the suggestions... |
