My apologies. The purpose of the post was to help out the OP: It just
happened that my website was the place I thought best to get said
help. You will notice that in other instances I've recommended and
linked to many other sites that have nothing to do with me but where
I feel the OP can get the best help qavailable to them within the
limits of my knowledge. However if recommending my own site once in
a while upsets you so much I'll not do it in future.

In this particular case the OP asked for someone to recommend a
supplier of a particular service, and that is what you did. I haven't
noticed you pushing Kustomcomputa excessively so I don't think
there's any risk of the newsgroups being swamped by advertising. I
recall that you have been a very helpful member of the group.

I don't think you should take this complaint seriously. You can't
expect to post to usenet without getting flamed occasionally.

Thank you for your input and for making me feel a little more at ease: It is
true that any post to Usenet is liable to attract flammage. I have, as you
kindly said, done my best to put positive input to the group and to be as
helpful as possible: It's nice to see that at least someone has noticed, and
thank you again for your positive comment. Whilst it is nice to please some
of the people all of the time or all of the people some of the time, it's
just evidently not possible to please all of the people all of the time -
Such is life.

The P35 does not have integrated graphics. You'd need to go for the G or
Q series chipsets. Unfortunately boards with these chipsets tend to be
micro-ATX.

The computer needs to be
- quiet as possible
- stable and reliable
- PS2 keyboard
- USB2 - min 6 external sockets
- e-SATA would be nice
- onboard network, sound and video
- supports DDR2 800
- Supports CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E8200

Price not a problem.

The problem is I cannot find a selector on any website which allows me
to enter these requirements (especially the onboard video) and then
shows boards which match - not even on Gigabytes site. All the board
manufacturers make far too many boards to be able to trawl through the
details.

I've found one, the GA-G33-DS3R iG33. But no e-SATA or firewire and only
4 rear USB ports. Why is it so difficult?

It's difficult because MoBos with on-board graphics are generally
restricted to low-end or small form-factor boards. You probably will not
find all you want in a G33 or G965 (Note: "G" for Graphics!) MoBo.

The P35 chipset is good, but I think a few bux more for an X38 board would
be a better choice for a new C2D. The Gigabyte DS4 series is a good
example:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...E168 13128064

Add a reasonable video card and be ready to add a sound card (on-board
audio is notoriously weak)...

Andy, thanks for that ... it might just be the answer.
The back panel description above does not include a video socket and the
description does not include onboard video but the page you have given
states "Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3100
High Definition Video Processing with max. resolutions to 1920 x 1440 @
85Hz for RGB High-definition video processing with a maximum resolution of
2048 x 1536 bpp @75 Hz
Maximum shared memory of 256MB " Apparently it has a Intel GMA 3100 unit.

If you look up the products on Newegg, you can get pictures.
The I/O ports on the P5K-V are labeled here. There appears to
be a VGA 15 pin on the back. If you're trying to use a cheap
LCD, some of those are digital DVI only.

http://c1.neweggimages.com/NeweggIma...131-184-06.jpg

The Asus P5K-VM is a microATX, and it has VGA and HDMI on the back.
By means of an HDMI to DVI adapter, you can use a DVI LCD monitor.

http://c1.neweggimages.com/NeweggIma...131-237-04.jpg
http://c1.neweggimages.com/NeweggIma...131-237-07.jpg

Asrock ships an adapter that fits in the PCI Express x16 slot.
Apparently some Intel chipsets with built-in graphics, support a
proprietary interface option, where a cheap adapter can be used
to send DVI data to the LCD monitor. This one is actually bundled with
an Asrock board based on 945G. The only benefit I see in this
approach, is this should be easy on power consumption, compared to
putting an actual video card in the PCI Express x16 slot.

The Dabs site is absolutely brilliant - it searches for motherboards which
match your requirements - exactly what I have been looking for!

thanks

Davy

Thanks for letting me know it was useful.
Let us know about your eventual purchase
(I chose GA-M61P-S3 using DABS search because it had 4 PCI slots)
