Default 3dmark 2001se scores in Win98 vs xp

Just experienced something very interesting. My PC is a homebuilt
with an XP 2100+ oc'ed right now to 2ghz, 256mb pc2700 ram, ATI
8500le, SBLive, 40gb 7200 WD HDD, on an Abit KD7-E. My hard drive is
dual partitioned, roughly the same size, one partition running 98se,
the other running XP Home. I ran 3DMark in XP first, and came up with
9122. Then I rebooted to 98se and ran again, this time scoring 7230.
This may be old news to some, but I was surprised at the difference.
Is XP just faster, or does 3DMark score them differently?

On the contrary, I've read several threads that games perform much BETTER
Win98SE, as compared to WinXP.

I was experiencing the same, ruffly 300 point difference in 3dmark with Xp
being faster. It wasnt till i did a reinstall of 98se and installed the via
4 in 1 that the 3dmark score was on par with xp.
