Black screen- Presario 12XL300B
Whenever I turn on my computer, I can here the hard drive running but
the LCD stays black. I ordered a new hard drive because I wanted more space anyway and thought it might help the problem. It didn't. What's up with my computer? Thanks.

First, try hooking up an external monitor. No video there? Probably a bad

A blank screen can be many things
Hooking up to the external monitor is a great reply If that passes it is most likely the back light The back light is the culprit most of the times or the power inverter for the light.
