Default Tray 2 on HP 1525NW??? (for straight through paper path)

I accidentally bought some 52lb color photo laser paper and tried to
use it with my 1525NW. it melts the toner into the paper at the top
and gives horizontal white blotches going across the printed page.
Then the printer goes through numerous cleaning cycles.

This paper HP Q6549A seems incompatible with the printer? I was just
wondering whether there was any chance of using Tray 2 and feeding
straight out of the back please? I called Hp and firstly they said
they had never heard of this paper of theirs. Secondly they said NOT
to use Tray 2 for anything, always use tray 1. Even for envelopes
alone, you have to take the paper out of the standard tray, move the
guides and re-insert every time you want to do an envelope. (actually
i did notice someone commenting on this curious procedure in a review)

Does anyone know what the story is with this Tray 2 on this printer
please? Am I likely to be able to use it and if so, how? I am using
Mountain Lion and when I didnt seem to be able to control anything on
the printer, installed 52 megabytes of special HP drivers which now
dont seem to allow me to control ANY Parameters on this printer,
neither quality nor paper handling nor anything.

HP also said not to use anything more than 20lb paper (VERY cheap copy
paper) in it. Was this just a dud printer they sold cheap before the
floods of complaints started coming in?

It is a discontinued printer and from your post, I see why.

A printer that can only handle cheap 20lb copy paper is just a cheap office
colour printer. Its not for specialy printing needs.

Personally, I only use premium 24lb bright white (98~99%).

The spec. says 53lb max so (in the UK) I would return it to the retailer
as not fir for purpose under the Sale of Goods Act!

Yes, that is what I meant. the person at HP didnt seem to understand
when I expressed incredulity that HP could market a printer which is
only designed for the cheapest type of copy paper!

But what is the story with the 53lb max paper weight? This does imply
that there is some procedure for a straight paper path which
presumably would require using Tray 2 and an open rear?

Surely this wouldn't render it unfit for purpose? It would just mean
that you couldnt use it with 110lb card stock. She did start to sound
nervous when i implied that a printer which only takes the cheapest
paper can't be used properly and immediately started going on about HP
not supporting this printer.

Hey get this guys, on the print speed of this highly professional
printer which can, the manufacturer says, only manage 20lb paper
weight (and about which hewlett packard doesnt want to answer any
questions):

After about a few hundred pages of operation (during which it stops
periodically to clean something), this unit goes into what it calls
'Cool Down Mode' for about ten minutes. Then it prints about three
pages and stops again while it cools down again!!

I wonder if it can manage ten copies of a 70 page document overnight?

Should they use a calendar to measure print speed?
