Default HardDrive question : if lost partition chances to get data back

If I've no partition but the HD has never been reformatted

what are the chances I can get the data back

the only other wrinkle is that the disk was 'upgraded' from a 'basic'
disk to a 'dynamic' disk

i guess i need to use some 'partition recovery' tool as when i do it
FINDS the lost partition but costs
$150 for the serial code

thanks much

If you can recover the partition table, there is a reasonable chance
you can get the data back .

It use linux-based tools like gparted, which is at least free.
However, you will need to have a backup of the MBR or some
idea of how it was partioned.

thanks much

i wish i was more fluent in the terminology
e.g. difference between the partition table and the partition
the file DO show up in NTFS recovery gui tool, but states they contain
no data, i was able to grab them with this Uneraser tool by the same
company diskinternals.com
they have a recovery tool for partitioning tool but that is $149

the tools on UBCD are over my head, and/or cost money

Partition Table Doctor
http://www.ptdd.com/

Not used it but have used their free Super Fdisk and that works a
treat(Different program for data recovery).
