Default "System cannot find the device file specified" - What????

I am having weird problems. I have a Windows 2000 host that has access
to a bunch of LUNs. From time to time, when I remove a drive letter and
readd the letter, if I try to access the disk, I get:

"H:\ The system cannot find the device file specified."

Any ideas as to how or why this might happen?

Thanks.
