Default Motherboard Replacement

Looking for a new motherboard for a Compaq Presario S6010V. The one that
came with it is a MS-6577 M-ATX Rev. 3.1 Giovani. This exact model is not
available anymore. Not really wanting to upgrade, just a comparable
replacement for the original.
Any suggestions? Thank you!

Default Motherboard Replacement

First of all, any of the motherboards comparable to the MS-6577 are no longer
manufactured. Motherboard manufacturers have moved to the Intel 900-series
chipsets, which support dual-core CPUs in the 775-pin LGA775 form factor.

Next, if you drop in a non-Compaq replacement motherboard, you will need to do
the Microsoft product authentication/validation/etc dance, and any software in
your system branded specifically for Compaq will no longer work. A typical
example would be Compaq OEM CD burning software keyed to the Compaq motherboard
BIOS.

You would have the lease difficulty replacing the motherboard with one that has
either the Intel 845 chipset or the 865 chipset. If your system already has an
AGP card, or you want to install one to get better graphics, then you do not
want a motherboard without an AGP card. Also, you want a microATX board,
because a full-sized ATX will not fit inside the case.

My personal preferences in brands of motherboard start with Intel, then Asus,
SuperMicro, then all the rest.

There are some companies that stock 845 and 865 chipset boards, a few new, and
mostly used. Some are on eBay, some not. Beyond all this, I can't suggest
much more.

Once you think you've homed in on some choices, post info about them here.
