Default Evesham computers - problems

Has any one else had difficulties with Evesham? I'm experencing
delivery delays on a laptop and customer service shortfalls that
surprise me given their reputation.

Their reputation as spammers, you mean?

It's a good idea not to do business with spammers.

Any reputation they had was shot to pieces a couple of years ago when
they embarked on a large scale spam marketing campaign. Together with
their alter-ego 'lowestonweb.com' they're one to steer well clear of.
If I were you I'd try and cancel and order from a decent supplier.

I'd always heard good things about Evesham but when I recently bought a
laptop the Sony DVD burner they'd fitted to it wouldn't burn the Sony
DVDs I'd bought. Evesham CS were absolutely no help whatsoever - I
exchanged numerous emails with people who demonstrated no clue(tm) at
all! They refused to tell me what DVDs would work with the drive (ie
which ones they'd tested it with ("that's a different department and we
can't ask them"!!!) and even told me that if I insisted on them sending
an engineer out they'd want a GBP100 deposit from my cc as they believed
it wasn't a hardware problem when clearly the laptop was not working as
they'd sold it to do. What they didn't ever suggest, but what I was
advised to do within 24 hours from asking on usenet, was to upgrade the
firmware of the drive. That sorted it. I would be very unlikely to buy
from Evesham again. Sitting in queues of over 30 minutes on an 0870
number before speaking to anyone has also jaded my view of them. As a
small contrast, one of the keys on the keyboard fell apart after a
couple of months. They did send someone out to replace the keyboard
fairly quickly but it shouldn't have broken in the first place.

What problems are you having exactly?

(Btw, I've never been spammed by them.)

I ordered and paid for a laptop which was promised in 10 days. That
was 32 days ago. Two other dates were missed and like you I find their
customer support/service appalling. They don't keep most of their
promises to make contact and blame their problems on suppliers of
cases, hard drives, bezels and leads. The only compensation offered
was free delivery... whoopee. Absolutely dreadful.

Cancel under the Distance Selling Regulations. Under Reg 18 unless agreed
otherwise the supplier must perform within 30 days beginning on the day
after the the day on which the consumer sent his order to the supplier.
