Default Adapter Cable For iPod Plug and HDMI Port?

My treadmill has a TV screen and an iPod/iPhone cable connected to it.
I'm guessing that the cable has a 30-pin plug (male).

I would like to connect a laptop (with an HDMI port) to this
iPod/iPhone cable and stream programs to the treadmill's TV screen.

I don't seem to be able to find a cable adapter having at one end a
30-pin (female) iPod/iPhone plug and an HDMI (male) plug at the other
end.

Is there such cable? What are other options to reach the goal?

Have you tried Googling

name_of_treadmill HDMI

in a search ? Maybe someone has already figured
out a way to do this.

Hi Paul. Yes I have tried that and a variety of other searches.
What is the technical name for the iPod/iPhone plug? Maybe I can try
that along with HDMI...

I don't see any HDMI pins on this one.

It's called a dock connector. (There's a later
adapter, intended for the Lightning connector
on some other Apple devices, which is even weirder,
and includes its own SOC to control content.)

http://www.allpinouts.org/index.php/...nd_iPhone_dock

I wonder what interface your treadmill is using ? USB ?

http://www.tuaw.com/2011/03/02/apple...l-and-wont-do/

The Apple adapter appears to be an "active" adapter.
The Apple end of things, controls the resolution sent
out on the HDMI cable, and does so to avoid DMCA
issues (not a path to pirate movies, implying as well
that the device doesn't have an end to end HDCP to it).

So this is a lot weirder than I expected.

Like, maybe the chip that is in the Apple adapter, is
also inside the treadmill ? So the Apple talks to
its pet adapter chip, and sends out 1080p or 720p,
as it sees fit. Apparently not all versions of iOS
even drive that setup.

If the Apple interface pinout was showing some HDMI signals,
then we'd be looking for a vanilla (passive) adapter
cable. If the pinout on the first link is accurate,
the chip inside the adapter is USB to video,an active
adapter, of which there are different models for
USB2 and USB3 that have been on Newegg.

The 30 pin pinout also has composite and S-Video
signals, but the notes next to the pin names
suggest those signals have limited utility
(when Apple drives them). You would have
to look at the resolution of the Treadmill display,
and decide whether it's a 640x480 suited to a blurry
S-video, or whether it's a much higher resolution and
being fed at 720p or 1080p. In which case, maybe the
Treadmill is doing USB to HDMI (at whatever resolution
the Apple device decides is allowed under the circumstances,
playing movie content at 720p instead of 1080p, and
without benefit of HDCP encryption).

I think if I was running on that Treadmill right
now, I'd be cursing the name of the Treadmill maker,
to pass the time...
