Default Confused about cores

I know that Venice and San Diego are newer than the Winchester cores,
but when you go to buy one on the web, they are listed as 3000+, 3200+
etc.

How can you tell which core you are getting?

Some resellers list the core. Others don't list the core by name, but may
list the manufacturing process used. Some list just an AMD part number you
can perhaps cross reference on AMD's site. Cahe amount can sometimes help
narrow down the core in some cases. When all else fails, contact the
reseller you are thinking of buying from.

The last two letters on the Venice are BP and the last two letters on the
San Diego are BN

Check out http://www.anandtech.com for a chart of cores and chips to
part numbers. The short answer is given by LBJGH.

I read on that site that Venice and San Diego are 90 nm cores and will
consume less power and also be easier to cool. Am planning to upgrade
to one of them

Regards
