Adaptec 2820SA Logical Device Failed
System: WinXP SP2
Supermicro X6DAE-G2 2 x Xeon CPU 3.40 GHz 8 x Western Digital Caviar RE 400GB SATA Adaptec 2820SA Bios: b11564 Driver: b11737 Configuration: 4 RAID 0 Arrays (2 disks in each array) Problem: Playing Quicktime files causes a "Logical device failed", independent of the file or which array the file is located on. Fortunately, the the device can be "Forced online" using Adaptec Storage Manager. I, naively, thought that this would be a problem Adaptec would be concerned with, unfortunately, Adapetc claims that this is a problem with the Quicktime software. But my RAID just crashed... I would appreciate any work around to this problem. |

I bought one of these for use under Linux. After messing around wwoth it for some weeks, I found that is was essentialluy an expensive paperweight. Unrealiable, slow, hard to manage, no tools for automatic monitoring. I would appreciate any work around to this problem. I thinkAdaptecislying through theior teeth. Userspace software should not at all be able to crash a hardware RAID controller. I would advise you to thrwo this pice of garbage out and to never buyAdaptecagain...
