Default pressario 5640AU with compaq s4100 scanner - problem

hi...
serviced this machine then did a restore of the os [winXP]...
get back to set up at the clients site and i cant get the vista
software to recognise the scanner...i pulled the usb cable out and
plugged into another port and XP recognises it but vistascan still
wont...put the printer into the port originally scanner was into and
xp sees the printer so this port is ok......what is the trick with
this software???
anybody seen this and can give me a tip or two
