Default Touchpad problem on Presario V2000

Switched on my Compaq Presario V2000 one day and my left click button
doesn't work. In fact it seems to think it is always depressed. The
little icon in the system tray has its left button grren ie. pressed.

Tried reinstalling driver. No good.

External mouse works fine.

If I switch to left-handed operation, the left button works fine as a
right-click. So I guess it's not a hardware problem.

Anyone got any ideas?
