compaq 700 freeze up solution
Hello
Norton Anti-Virus bundled with Compaq 700 Laptop's seems to have a incompatibly issue with SP1 and SP2... NAVSHEXT.DLL conflicts with system services. First uninstall Norton from Control panel with (add remove programs). Stop any NAV processes in the task manager. To remove NAVSHEXT.DLL Start-Run-then type regedit From tool bar - Edit-Find "NAVSHEXT.DLL" Continue to search and delete all NAVSHEXT.DLL entry's in right window. Run a good Registry cleaner to remove all broken links. Grisoft AVG Free Anti-Virus can then be installed.. Do a search on C drive for "norton antivirus" and "symantec" folders and then delete. |

I can't imagine you would install 2 if 1 messed up your system. Yes, get rid of Norton. What you are now seeing is why I would NEVER have Norton. Get AOL 9 SE for your Internet protection. See my article on it. Best to ya |

Presario 700? If you are running 512 Megs of RAM it is a hardware
issue that you can not rectify.. Remove SP1 and it will be fine. We had a ton of these do this and thats the reason no SP1 on the origional recovery disks. Bear in mind this is ONLY if you are running 256 Megs onboard and an additional 256 in the expansion slot. |

compaq 700 freeze up solution
I had the same problem with my 710US freezing, although removing the extra
128 MB of RAM didn't help. I traced it to a troublesome Windows Update; uninstalled that, and the machine was okay for the most part. However, I later on reloaded XP and patched it all the way to SP2, but have had no freeze-ups or other performance issues since that. I was also told that the machine tends to run hot, and there isn't enough insulating "stuff" around the heat sink and the machine could shut down then. That series of Presarios have a host of problems, it seems. "dannysdailys" wrote in message ... ikenfixitwrote: Presario 700? Would be more trouble than its worth to try and isolate the problem..
And they DO run hot. If you own one? Dump it on E-bay before it does the infamous meltdown... Or the board shorts at the jack and starts arcing and smoldering.. Or the thermal trasfer pad melts down and shorts out the CPU... These were a problem IMO.. |
