Who do you mean by "their". Synaptics of eMachines?
Tom "Kevin Childers" wrote in message ... If you are using XP, please be cognizant that not all of their stuff is M$ XP approved. My son is highly irritated by this as the automatic update on his Emachine laptop downloaded a new driver and XP pop's a screen warning every time he boots it that the Driver is not XP approved and that he needs to update to an approved one. To date Synaptics has not posted one to their site. The one he has works great, it's just that annoying little pop-up that he gets every time he boots up. KC "Sally Thompson" wrote in message ... My son has just given me his Armada M300 Notebook, which I love! However, I'm not used to the touchpad and I don't like the fact that it will "select" a program without a click, just by pointing to it. My son thinks there's a way to turn off that feature, but I can't find it. Can anyone advise? I just can't see it Andrew. If I go to Mouse Properties I have three tabs. Under buttons, I have button configuration, right-handed or left-handed, and double-click speed. Under Pointers, it is set as Windows Standard (and not relevant anyway). Under Motion, I have Pointer speed and Pointer trail. I am really puzzled. However, I have had a look at the synaptics software recommended by Trai'La Trash, and will probably try that if I can't change it another way. Thanks anyway. -- Sally in Shropshire, UK http://www.stonybrook-ludlow.co.uk If you need to email use sally=thompson@btinternet=com and replace the = with a dot (Reply To is spam trap) |

Under M$ current policies, it is the third party vendors (Synaptics)
responsibility to provide a copy of any and all their software to M$ for testing and certification. If not it is subject to such warnings. This is not a free service by M$. There is a valid reason for this as the majority of the old windows system crashes could be traced back to software issues from non-M$ drivers/apps/software. With the fielding of Windows 2000, M$ changed their approach and instead of going to the vendors with their new O/S they told the vendors if they wanted in they would have to come to M$. M$ got out of the business of writing custom drivers for any and all major players in the software business with the fielding of Windows ME. It's not a major issue, but a constant irritant to have your PC pop up a warning every time you reboot. KC "Tom Scales" wrote in message ... Who do you mean by "their". Synaptics of eMachines? Sally you wont get touchpad options until you install the software. Then you
will see it. "Sally Thompson" wrote in message ... On Fri, 09 Jan 2004 07:26:51 GMT, "andrew2000" wrote: settings are in control panel, under mouse "Sally Thompson" wrote in message ... Sounds like a one sided problem Kevin,
I have the touchpad software on 3 Compaq laptops and don't have that problem. 1247 ME 1255 2000 Pro Evo N600c XP PRo Now keep in mind all mine are clean installs with no factory stuff. I have played with a few Emachines and have found them to be worse than the worst Compaq ever put out. Trai' "Kevin Childers" wrote in message ... That's the part that surprised me, this is from an OEM update. The
touch pads are a pretty standard component sold to many different manufacturers, it's not as though this were some custom work. I'm sure M$ change in policy plays a part in it as well. Still with Synaptics being no small player in the laptop market, one would expect that they and M$ would work more closely together. Hopefully this will be updated soon and the issue resolved.
