absolutely kill the performance. It has to be UNIX permissions (even
if it has an volume such as sql for a windows server). UNIX-style permissions are absolutely fine for SQL. For any SQL - MSSQLServer, Oracle, MySQL etc. Just disable all access to the files except for the admin and for the user account under which the database engine runs (must be very low-privilege account with only the rights for the database files and for backup device).
