Default Insperion E1505 - Virus Issue

Granddaughter brought home her computer from college and it will not run. Checked it out and it shower up mechanically OK, but w/91 viruses, Trojans, worms etc.. I have cleared all of the mess except for the one attached to the logon.exe file. If I have done my research correctly, this is not a system file for windows, but the viruses own file?

BTW, 3 years & the anti-virus was never updated, never run. . .

Why not just reformat the dirve, reload the OS with an up to date
virus/spyware package? If you missed something, you may be spending
more time trying to track it down.

Had a co-worker at one of my past jobs. Insisted the boss get him a
new PC as his was so slow. When I got around to looking at it, I found
something like 75-80 viruses, mostly the old Paulina Porizkova nudie
photo thing that was circulating at the time. Obviously the co-worker
was hard at his job...so to speak.

Hello,

I agree with the other poster that you should reformat the PC to start off
with the best performance.

In any case, logon.exe is not a valid file created during Windows XP or IE8
installation. You may want to upload the file here and get it scanned

download install avast free from avast.com. you can use it for 30 days without registering, and after installation is complete it asks if you want to schedual a scan at boot (before windows even loads) which is the only reliable way to get rid of more aggressive malware. the malwarebytes program suggested is very good, but i have regularly found that it misses things that avast picks up. or, if you don't have much software installed on the system, why not just do the dell system restore (not to be confused with the windows restore roll back feature), which will reset the system to look just like the first time you booted it.

Unless you are afraid of losing certain files, best to reformat and
reinstall the OS. This is the best solution in "most" cases.
