Except that a lot of "sales" are actually reflections of the
manufacturer selling it to the retailer at a low price for a limited
time, so the retailer gets the same profit per unit. See, for
instance, incentives in automobile sales; the dealer incentives are
very frequently not publicized to the buyers, so you have to look in
places like Consumer Reports price service to find out.
