Well here is what I ordered today
The printer was added in after my configuration was done. If I got the printer
package and McAfee, I was upgraded on several other things and the price came out about the same. I probably have until tomorrow to make any changes. You don't want surround sound? You only ordered a 2.1 speaker system. If you're going to order a system with a Blue-Ray player, wouldn't you want a surround sound speaker system? You ordered an enhanced warranty package. Are you sure it's worth the money? Personally, I never buy any kind of extended warranty, especially on a desktop system. That goes for any piece of electronic hardware I purchase. With the exception of laptops. I don't know about the Dell AIO printer. Over $270 for a printer seems a bit high. I haven't actually checked, but can't you walk into a Staples anywhere and walk out with a nice, HP AIO for about half that? I'm not a McAfee fan. I use AVG Anti-Virus 8.0 Free Edition. And Zone Alarm Free Edition for my firewall. I've not had any issues with viruses, spyware or other malware. I haven't paid for security software in years. Isn't Adobe offering a suite of photo editing software (basically Photoshop Elements) for free? I think you can get Microsoft Office 2007 Home and Student for about $130.00 at Office Depot. Certainly for that, or less, at sites like newegg or tiger. Lastly, what about coupons? Have you gone to some of the coupon sites to see if you can get a few hundred off that system? I used a coupon and picked up an Inspiron 530 that listed for $1000.00. I paid $700.00 for it, with free shipping, and a gift card for $50.00. ** Posted from http://www.teranews.com ** |

First -- did your system cost $2,427 PLUS $372 PLUS $287? If so, my first reaction is "omg". Do you need a fax machine? If not, then you may be better off with a separate scanner and printer. I like the Canon LIDE scanners because they don't need time to warm up which means I will use my scanner as I need it rather than pile up papers intending to scan but never actually doing it. I have a HP 7410 all-in-one wireless monster inkjet that I will try to sell to someone for the cost of the new cartridges that I haven't used yet. I much prefer a laser printer but when I need to do color I have my wireless photo Canon 5200r. Did you check the outlet for a XPS 420? I did today just because I wanted to see if any came with a monitor but it didn't appear to, however there were some very good prices on highly-spec'd 420's, some with 750GB or 1TB hard drives plus a secondary drive. I don't know if blue-ray is writeable yet. That's something to be aware of. I thought I saw a few 420's that had "write" after "blu-ray" but with all the DVD +/- RW CDRW ROM blah blah blah it's hard to decipher what drives it actually had. I would NEVER go with McAffee (and I never know how to spell it either) or Norton. I'd go with freeware AVG, Avast, or my current favorite Kaspersky Internet Suite. If I were buying new at this time and spending that much money I'd consider a 64 bit OS. I'm not the expert on that however, just food for thought. Also, for that kind of money I would have hoped to see the 2408WFP Ultra Sharp 24" monitor, not the cheaper one. I recommend reading the user reviews to see if that's the monitor you really want. If you have a prior version of Office, save your money and don't get 2007 -- it sucks. The only things good about it are One Note 2007 and the new Outlook, IF you use that for keeping your calendar. The new Outlook lets you have 60 minute time slots in weekly view so you can see your whole week even on a smaller screen, and the extra space can show tasks for each day. Many community colleges have student discounts on MS Office software so you could take a 1 credit online class and buy Office very inexpensively ( you could even drop the class after buying Office ). At this price I would expect a 512MB video card, and Nvidia might be better than ATI (not sure about that, I have found Radeons to be fairly cheap and disposable). For 2.1 speakers, go with the Logitech Z-2300 THX-Certified 200-Watt 2.1 Speaker System. They are great! Link: http://tinyurl.com/3fpq87 .. Be aware that they great Amazon price doesn't include shipping costs which are substantial for that product. Otherwise as someone else mentioned I'd go with 5.1 probably. What are you going to use your wireless bluetooth headset for? Is it for listening to music wirelessly? If so, I prefer a normal wireless headset -- Sennheiser RS 140 Wireless Balanced Headphones. They can be found very inexpensively if watching coupon sites. I have bluetooth headsets and don't use them. Same with keyboard and mouse -- laser is better than bluetooth IMO (some may debate this, but laser just works, with bluetooth you sometimes run into frustrating glitches, and it seems to use more power). I prefer not to have a built-in card reader because I'd rather have a blank plastic face and use that bay for a 4th hard drive. Dell gave me a free blank face when they did a service call, otherwise before that I had the card reader face in front of a hard drive. I think it says that your OS is Vista Home Premium. Be aware that you won't be able to connect to it from other computers using Remote Desktop. That functionality is only included with Business and Ultimate (not sure about Enterprise). I'd rather have Vista Business anyday, esp. because if I were going to use the computer with a TV tuner for PVR I'd use Beyond TV and not the Windows Media Center functionality. Other than those things, I think you have a great system :-) (to each his own, these things may not be relevant to you) Whatever you get, I hope you enjoy it for several years to come. |

Well here is what I ordered today
Thank you. I cancelled THE order. These salesmen can sell me the anything. I got
carried away. McAfee was free. And he inferred to me that the printer would be free but it wasn't. I will start again and take your advice in to consideration although I don't particularly want to gamble on a refurbished machine. "journey" wrote in message ... Link: http://tinyurl.com/3fpq87 . |

Well here is what I ordered today

wrote: Thank you. I cancelled THE order. These salesmen can sell me the anything. I got carried away. McAfee was free. And he inferred to me that the printer would be free but it wasn't. I will start again and take your advice in to consideration although I don't particularly want to gamble on a refurbished machine. Hi, the refurbished machines, and scratch and dents, are almost always as good as new. I don't think I've heard of anyone being unhappy with one. If you want, feel free to e-mail me and I can tell you more about some of the specific products I mentioned, such as the scanner, speakers, wireless keyboard, and wireless headphones. Or just post back here and others can respond too. Does anyone know if the blu-ray drives are read only, or are there some write ones out there? |

Well here is what I ordered today
I have a Canon Lide scanner, and my old HP 882C printer just won't die. However My
Okifax fax machine is dying. Very unreliable. I need a fax machine yesterday. I realize the salesperson saw a pigeon and upgraded me too much. I want a wireless system, I hate McAfee but it was free and he said I had to take it in order to get this wonderful bundle deal. I thought the whole thing would be upgraded and the price would go down. Not so. "journey" wrote in message ...
