No Pc world was formed by them as was the link.

No I think you're wrong the IIRC it was started by a mail
order company (whose name I cannot remember but would instantly
recognise if you said it) and subsequently taken over by DSG. I
tried to check the company history on the DSG website
http://www.dixons-group-plc.co.uk/

but got

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a001c'

Out of stack space: 'ConvertChar'

D:\DIXONS-GROUP-PLC\WWWROOT\NEW CORPORATE
SITE\WEBCODE\../funclib/ConvertString.inc, line 43

They should have bought an extended warranty off their web

I suspect most people use them because they still prefer to
shop in the high street and DRG are the dominant player for
electrical goods. Unfortunately most people see the big,
bright, recognised sign above the door and assume they're
trustworthy.

Older guys like me will remember Comet originally being Comet
discount warehouse (OK it originally was a shop in Hull) - and
warehouse it was: you passed over your money and got a sealed
box, no displays or anything. But when we've bought
washer-driers for rented flats a local independent undercuts
Comet/Currys by £50-70 and delivers and installs foc.

PC World was a retailer when Dixons acquired them.

However, they acquired mail-order company DNCS shortly afterwards and
merged it with PC World to form the PC World Business Direct brand.
