Alot to do with good retailer/customer relations though still.

2-3 weeks later - CCL admit error - bit feckin late as I off loaded the
drive ages ago.

If I'd realised they were cloth cap brigade I'd have give them some
leeway after all can't be easy being always right even when thy is wrong
!!

Nope, this was a Maxtor drive, set to the same settings as the known
working Maxtor one I removed to be able to test in its place.

It wasn't the jumpers, although TBH, i've never heard nor experienced
that scenario before.

I've just put a WD in my daughter's pc. I think work scrapped it on the
basis it was dud. DON'T THINK SO! It just has FOUR different jumper
settings, namely master, slave, cable-select and sole. I'm guessing they
added or took away a slave, and the WD in master config promptly died...

It works fine if it's correctly jumpered :-)

I've cancelled the post, withdrawn the accusation, written CCL a
stinking letter, and await the outcome of my meeting with Trading
Standards.


Head of CCL customer services at CCL (Kim Young) called me personally to
explain why there had been such a delay in letting me know they would be
returning the drive as not faulty. It was due to an internal procedure
which hadn't been followed in quite the correct manner.

She has also agreed to offer me a full refund on the drive, although did
state quite categorically that the drive was found to be OK on test.

I have accepted her account of matters, and therefore the matter has
been resolved to my full satisfaction.
