Default HP PSC 2400 photosmart software> install not complete

Hiya

I'm installing a hp psc 2400 photosmart series, as a local printer on
a laptop that has Win2000 & OfficeXP.
When I install from the CD & its completed in the StartPrograms
menu no shortcut has been setup.
When i goto C:\Program Files\HP & locate the shortcut in there &
double click to run the .exe not all the icons are displayed.
In the hp manual under the troubleshooting setcion it mentions the
problem 'some of the icons are missing in the hp director'. The
possible cause is the installation may not be complete. ANd the
solution is to uninstall the software & then reinstall the software.
When I goto uninstall the software via the menu StartControl Panel
Add remove programs the HP printer isnot displayed in the list for me
to uninstall. (therefore obviously the software wasnt installed
properly in the 1st place for me to uninstall).

How can I get around this? Can I go thru the registry to delete
registry items related to this printer & its software.
However when I re-install the software from the CD - I'll just have
the same issue again.

any ideas?
many thanks Diana

Just to add to the confusion, Canon is coming out with a new line of
printers. That explains all the rebates on the current line. You can get the
i960 at Best Buy for $170.00 plus a $20 gift card. Not a bad deal. I'm still
using a i850 and can't decide to upgrade or not
